THAT’S AMORE: George Clooney and his fiancée Amal Alamuddin are in Venice this weekend and a few details about their wedding, expected to take place Monday, are starting to pepper the media; details including the name of the taxi booked by the actor, aptly called “Amore,” and driven by Sandro Greco, reportedly the go-to handler for Clooney during the Film Festival in the city. Pal Rande Gerber, rumored to be the actor’s best man, and his wife Cindy Crawford; Matt Damon, Bono and their wives, as well as Anna Wintour are some of the guests that have been spotted in Venice.
The ceremony is expected to be officiated by Walter Veltroni, a former mayor of Rome, who bonded with Clooney over efforts to end the Darfur genocides, and the area around the Ca’ Farsetti town hall is to be sealed off on Monday morning. Italy’s La Repubblica on Saturday reported that Clooney is paying almost $3,000 euros to the municipal police for their troubles.
The three-day festivities span between the Cipriani Hotel on the Giudecca island — one of Clooney’s favorite hangouts in the city; the seven-star Hotel Aman at the grand 16th century Palazzo Papadopoli, on the Grand Canal, where a dinner party is expected in the evening before the wedding, and Ivo, the restaurant where the bachelor party was held — reportedly fueled by Clooney and Gerber’s tequila Casamigos.
Italian media on the weekend were quick to compare Alamuddin with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for her style, veering from the informal — at the airport, wearing sneakers — to a sleek, sleeveless, striped black-and-white dress at her arrival in Venice. While details about her wedding dress remain under wraps, Alamuddin is rumored to be wearing Oscar de la Renta, as reported by WWD. Giorgio Armani confirmed after his Emporio show earlier this month that Clooney would be donning one of his suits, and to wit, a large garment bag emblazoned with the designer’s name was photographed among the actor’s suitcases in Venice.
