Diane Gilman, the champion for Baby Boomer women’s fashion, has expanded her empire with a new ath-leisure collection. Called Luxsport, the line of tops, leggings, outerwear, shoes and accessories made its debut on HSN on Sunday and Gilman said the results have been strong.
“We’ve gotten 25 reviews so far, all five-star,” she said.
The collection also includes Lux Denim, a new jean in a denim fabrication that is 70 percent rayon and “the absolute closest a woven will even come to all-directional stretch,” Gilman said. They retail for $54.90.
“They’re forgiving, soft, easy to live in and wear,” she said.
Gilman, HSN’s longest-running fashion partner, has built a $150 million denim collection for the company.
She said that before launching Luxsport, she asked her customers what they were looking for in a leisure line, “and they said they want maximum comfort and they want to look good.”
So Gilman set out to design a line that she would wear for her weekend activities and brought it to HSN to add to her stable of products. “We know our customer won’t wear a midriff top and Kate Hudson tights,” she said.
The collection is being produced by Gilman’s longtime partner, Sunrise Brands.
Next Gilman said she’d like to “go back to my roots designing embellished denim for rock stars in the Sixties. So my next step will be embellishment and a focus on great accessories.”
