IT’S GONNA BE BIG: Donald and Melania Trump made their first official trip to the White House on Nov. 10 for some quality time with President Obama and the First Lady.
While the president and Trump retreated to the Oval Office, Michelle Obama led Melania on a tour of the East Wing to see the private residences. The president-elect stuck with his signature look of a dark suit, white shirt, red tie and American flag lapel pin — most probably by Brioni, which he has favored throughout his race for the White House. While touring the U.S. Capitol hand-in-hand with her husband, Melania went with an equally conservative ensemble — a buttoned-up black double-breasted Dolce & Gabbana coat, a black sleeveless Roland Mouret dress and black Christian Louboutin heels. Self-assured in her fashion choices, Melania is in the habit of buying her designer labels in Manhattan boutiques or online.
With her statuesque physique, Melania carries herself very much like the model she once was. The Slovenian-born brunette may very well usher out the pantsuit with her preference for jumpsuits. The mother of Barron Trump was unmistakable in a white one-shoulder Ralph Lauren jumpsuit on election night. (She also wore a black Ralph Lauren “Sheryl” jumpsuit for her husband’s final debate at Hofstra University.)
The Trumps are also accustomed to their own style of high-living, ensconced in the three-floor penthouse apartment in Trump Tower that was designed by Angelo Donghia in Louis XIV style. With mirrors galore, fresco, 24-karat gold accents, cherubs and marble columns, their Midtown digs have reportedly been valued at $100 million. Donghia, who died in 1985, designed the president-elect’s midtown digs for Trump and his first wife Ivana. The Donald along with Halston, Ralph Lauren, Barbara Walters, Diana Ross and Neil Simon were among the influential designer’s clients. But online images of the incumbent Leader of the Free World and his wife in their Fifth Avenue pad show such less-precious touches as a table laden with 26 framed family photographs and a crystal dish with Lindt truffles.
Family ties amidst Trump’s children from three different wives are said to be lasting. Ivana Trump, the mother of Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric, predicted her ex-husband’s win in September 2015. Trump’s son Barron is with Melania and daughter Tiffany was with his second wife, Marla Maples.
With his extended kin — his eldest son and daughter-in-law Vanessa (a handbag designer and former Wilhelmina model) have five children alone — Trump’s family gatherings at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue could get pretty rambunctious. When the time comes for a White House-worthy family portrait, maybe Eric Trump’s wife Lara, an “Inside Edition” associate producer, could help to frame the shot. (But she didn’t work on the show’s recent segment about how Ivanka and Chelsea Clinton have remained good friends through the years, a CBS spokeswoman said Nov. 10.)
Once in residence at the White House, the Trumps will no doubt have their share of weekend guests. Fortunately for them, vice president-elect Mike Pence’s wife, Karen, has invented something that may help to keep the bathrooms in order. She started a company called, That’s My Towel, for towel accessories.
