DREXLER GOES ‘BAD’: “Clearly I’m not quitting my day job,” said Millard “Mickey” Drexler, J. Crew Group Inc.’s chief executive officer, after his guest appearance on Sunday’s “Breaking Bad.”

Drexler wound up on the program after starting to watch the show about a year ago, mentioning to a friend at Sony Pictures that he loved it, who in turn conveyed to senior Sony execs that Drexler was a big fan. Zack Van Amburg, president of programming at Sony Pictures Television and Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures Television, called Drexler the next day, and they soon all became friends.

“They asked if I would appear on the show during the fourth season,” said Drexler. “I didn’t feel comfortable, so to make a long story short, I didn’t appear. They asked me again for this last season and I just said, ‘Why not?’ It could be a lot of fun. I went to Albuquerque [where the show is filmed] in February. They gave me a trailer for the day. I had eight or nine words. I played a customer at the car wash receiving change. I think I said “Ma’am, you gave me a five instead of a one.’ The irony was I think I was the only honest character on the show.” Drexler said he did nine takes. “Acting is not an easy profession.”

Asked how he felt watching himself on his favorite show, Drexler just said, “I don’t know. It was over so quickly. I was on for three seconds. But it was a once in a lifetime experience and definitely fun.” He doesn’t have to worry about a return appearance since “Breaking Bad” is in its final season.
