WHILE THE DUKE’S AWAY: Royal watchers in New York will no doubt have their eyes peeled when the Duke and Duchess touch down in Manhattan next month. Leaving no time for jet lag, the pair will be out on the town hours after they arrive on Dec. 7 at a private soirée hosted by the American Friends of the Royal Foundation. Once Prince William heads to Washington, D.C., for an anti-corruption World Bank conference the following day, his wife will stay in town to join New York City First Lady Chirlane McCray at a local child development center. Her Royal Highness will also attend a luncheon hosted by the British Consul General to celebrate British standouts in culture, arts, hospitality and business.
When her husband returns that night, they will be courtside at a NBA game to wave the flag for the league’s collaboration with the Royal Foundation and United for Wildlife.
On Dec. 9, the Royal Couple will visit an inner city youth organization before headlining a reception touting the UK government’s GREAT campaign. The duke will also pass by a technology event hosted by an undisclosed New York-based tech company.
The duke and duchess plan to cap off their visit at the University of St. Andrews 600th anniversary dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York media-fied style setters will be sure to dissect and critique Kate’s travel wardrobe hour-by-hour. With her sister Pippa in-the-running for a “Today” show job, the former Miss Middleton could very well bring her along as a plus-one.
Meanwhile, the duchess welcomed guests to Kensington Palace on Wednesday evening in London for a charity fund-raiser. The pregnant royal hosted an awards ceremony and reception for Place2Be Wellbeing Schools, a mental health institution that aids school-aged children. The duchess met with staff, volunteers and members of the charity and presented the Child Champion award. She wore a a sheer polka dot Hobbs blouse with a Jenny Packham silk knee length skirt. Next month, she will continue her royal duties alongside the Duke of Cambridge for their royal tour to New York.
