A look from the Esteban Cortazar-Paula Mendoza collaboration.

SAX FIFTH AVENUE: Fashion wunderkind Esteban Cortazar describes jewelry designer Paula Mendoza as “a perfect example” of the kind of woman he likes to dress: “sensual, brave and unstoppable.”

Now, the two Colombian-born designers — he based in Paris, she in New York — are collaborating on a jewelry collection. It is to be unveiled Sept. 11 at Mendoza’s showroom during New York Fashion Week and later appear in Cortazar’s Paris runway show, scheduled for Oct. 3.

The oversize, sculptural shapes take their cues from the saxophone, in materials ranging from metal hardware to Neoprene. “I am so inspired by the way Esteban treats each of the pieces he creates,” Mendoza enthused.
