FAMILY TIES: Aid for AIDS International raised $500,000 at its annual My Hero gala in New York Thursday night, where Diane von Furstenberg presented honoree Candy Pratts Price with her award. On hand for the organization, which supplies AIDS treatments to developing nations, particularly in Latin America, were longtime supporters Narciso Rodriguez, Carlos Campos and Marc Jacobs International president Robert Duffy.
Following a high-profile wedding in Provincetown in 2010 and the adoption of a daughter last year, Duffy is now in the midst of a divorce from husband Alexis Cespedes, who sits on the board of AFAI. “It will be final in a few weeks. It’s sad,” said Duffy of the split from Cespedes. “We share a child and I see him every day and he visits her every day and we have a wonderful friendship and a wonderful family. We’re still family and we still spend holidays together. I will always support him in anything he does and he supports me in anything I do.”

Duffy said the divorce proceedings have been amicable. “My lawyer said it’s the easiest divorce he’s ever seen — and the fastest. Because we love each other and there’s nobody contesting anything,” he explained. “I can’t believe I’m telling you all this but somebody is going to know.”
Von Furstenberg is looking forward to a holiday trip with her grandchildren to Africa, and said she has known Price, a contributing editor at Vogue, for decades. Price touted AFAI’s strategy of taking unused medicines in the U.S. and distributing them overseas, as well as the resilience of New Yorkers in the face of hurricanes and nor’easters. “To have this event this week shows who we are, because these people still need medicines whether it rains here or not,” she observed.
