FASHION EAST’S NEW GUARD: Fashion East, the London incubator for new design talent, has announced the three designers that will show as part of its fall 2014 lineup at London Fashion Week in February.
They are Ashley Williams and newcomers Helen Lawrence and Louise Alsop, who will be showing as part of Fashion East for the first time.
Lawrence is a 2012 graduate of the fashion masters program at Central Saint Martins and is known for her knitted creations. Her spring 2014 collection, which she showed as part of London’s Fashion Scout program, spotlighted pastel-colored knit sweaters stitched with scribble patterns, paired with PVC skirts.
Alsop graduated this summer from the fashion design BA program at London’s University of Westminster, sending out a monochrome collection with grungy influences. Looks included oversized chiffon T-shirts worn with raw-edged chiffon skirts.
Williams is showing as part of Fashion East for a third season. The designer, another graduate of the University of Westminster fashion design BA program, is gaining a reputation for her cartoonish prints.
The non-profit Fashion East scheme is supported by Topshop and directed by its founder Lulu Kennedy.
