No sun? No problem!
Attendees at Saturday’s Preakness Stakes made some sartorial adjustments due to an unseasonably cold and gloomy climate at the Pimlico Race Course.
Leading the hatless but chic charge was billionaire heiress and president of The Stronach Group, Belinda Stronach, who wore Gucci with a “Western feel” paired with nude fishnet stockings to keep legs warm (others went with tried and true rain boots. How she kept her strappy heels pristine from the muddy grounds is anybody’s guess.)
The big hat contingent was gamely represented by “milliner to the Triple Crown” Christine A. Moore, whose Preakness clients never let a few clouds keep them from her wide-brimmed opulence.
Rapper 50 Cent, also hatless, but in dapper Burberry, stopped by late in the day to Stronach’s chalet-inspired tent where white peonies, plush sofas, and endless supplies of Rose, kept everyone cozy.
There was a decidedly more masculine feel in the Under Armour tent hosted by chief executive officer Kevin Plank, a fan of Tom Ford. His 10,000 square feet vibrated with some 400 guests and a live band. Cigars were passed around by mini-skirted hostesses.
Could this be the start of the battle of the billionaire tents? Stay tuned.
