NORTHERN SPIRIT: Fashion’s Night Out is moving to the north of England. British Vogue said Thursday it would hos the fashion shopping event in Manchester on Thursday, Oct. 10. The event has taken place in London for the past four years.

“Once at the heart of a vibrant textiles industry, Manchester’s importance to fashion is unquestionable,” said Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue. “Bringing Fashion’s Night Out to its streets is the next logical step in the evolution of [the event] in the U.K. London has witnessed tens of thousands of shoppers joining the fun and we’re looking forward to sharing this experience with a new audience.”

In Manchester, Vogue is to partner with designers and retailers, and the events hub on the night will be Exchange Square. The local branches of Selfridges and Harvey Nichols have already confirmed their participation, while galleries, restaurants, and museums also plan to open their doors on the night.

“This will provide a real boost for the city center economy and I’m sure our retailers will make the most of their night in the limelight,” said councilor Pat Karney, a spokesperson for Manchester City Council.
