ARTS AND CRAFTS: Recycling goes upmarket in an installation headed to Design Miami at the end of the month. For the event’s Design Performance section, designer Elisa Strozyk and artist Sebastian Neeb, in collaboration with Fendi, will present a dreamlike installation titled Craft Alchemy, presenting a series of elaborate objects resembling antique wooden furniture, which were actually constructed from waste scraps of Fendi leather. The duo used artisanal carving and marquetry techniques to decorate the pieces, which were inspired by the neo-classical architecture of the Palazzo Fendi in Rome. The installation’s set was inspired by one of the Palazzo’s rooms. During the event, the artists will give live demonstrations of techniques used to craft the pieces, such as embossing and braiding.
