FOSSIL READIES FIRST DESIGNER COLLABORATION: Fossil is gearing up for its first designer collaboration, partnering with print design duo Eley Kishimoto on a line of accessories due out for the holiday season. Based upon Eley Kishimoto’s graphic prints, the collection includes scarves, totebags, wallets, cardholders, iPad holders, gloves and watches.
“The collection is simple, modern and fun,” said Tom Kennedy, executive vice president of Fossil. The designer duo behind Eley Kishimoto, Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto, created three exclusive prints for the 19-piece collection, basing the patterns on those of vintage laminate furniture and then pairing the graphic designs with Fossil’s classic silhouettes. Jill Elliott, chief creative officer of Fossil, noted that Eley Kishimoto’s designs perfectly complimented the brand’s signature silhouettes, such as simple tote bags and wallets.
The collection will also debut a brand new silhouette for Fossil with its “Retro Timer” watch, a timepiece inspired by a 1950’s classic timer. “The Retro Timer Watch was a result of our watch team’s effort to develop an innovative new mechanism which made Wakako [Kishimoto]’s designs come to life,” said Kennedy. The Retro Timer watch features a large square-face watch with oversized numerals and a large, colorful hour hand. The watch retails for $165, and will be available for sale along with the rest of collection beginning on Oct. 26 at select Fossil stores. Additional pricing ranges from $38, for a card holder, to $298 for a large shopper tote.
The collaboration will continue for spring, with new prints and products, including the Retro Timer watch’s successor in one-off timepieces. Named the Sweet Reminder watch, the piece features a smaller face than the Retro Timer, done in an asymmetrical, oval-like shape, paired with a thin leather strap. The Sweet Reminder watch will retail for $165 when it hits retail for spring.
