SOMETHING OLD AND SOMETHING NEW: French classic S.T. Dupont stopped by Berlin’s Hotel Adlon to show off creations old and new on Thursday, during the city’s fashion week.   


On display for a coterie of invited guests was a small exhibition of vintage travel cases and the more recent Audrey Hepburn- and Humphrey Bogart-inspired bags from the 140-year-old French brand known for luxury lighters and pens, and fine leather goods. The occasion also feted the launch of the latest collaboration between S.T. Dupont and designer Karl Lagerfeld, who has a long personal history with the brand.


“His grandmother gave him [an S.T. Dupont] lighter,” explained Alain Crevet, chief executive officer of S.T.Dupont, who said Lagerfeld has lots of ideas for collaborations.


The two forces first teamed up in 2011 for a red and black collection of lighters and pens.  The new white and matte black line includes high-tech touches, such as a luxury pen merged with a touch-screen stylus, for iPad-loving Lagerfeld, and an 8-gigabyte USB mini-drive that can double as a tie clip. 


“He wanted something different,” said Crevet.  


The Black & White collection also includes a lighter printed with silhouettes of the designer, another of his innovations, which goes for 100 euros, or $128.40 at current exchange. 


Guests to the event also previewed the brand’s upcoming limited-edition Metropolis collection, due out in September, which was inspired by the 1927 silent film of that name. It includes a pen, ashtray, lighter and cigar trimmer. 


A movie buff, Crevet told WWD he’s seen the Fritz Lang classic multiple times.
