HEADING NORTH: Jean Paul Gaultier is taking his irreverent and cheeky style to Scandinavia, designing a one-off collection for affordable fashion chain Lindex. Spanning women’s wear, children’s wear, accessories and lingerie, the fall collection is destined for select Lindex locations and the company’s Web site from Oct. 8.

Owned by listed Finnish department store operator Stockmann Group, Lindex operates 480 stores in 16 countries, including all of Scandinavia, Russia, the Baltics and the U.K. Its fashion division, which also counts the 209-unit Seppälä chain, posted revenues last year of 805.2 million euros, or $1.07 billion at average exchange. Lindex has also done collaborations with Matthew Williamson and Missoni.

No stranger to guest designing, Gaultier did a collection for American mass retailer Target in 2010 and for French cataloguer La Redoute in 2005. Lindex tapped the French couturier to mark its 60th anniversary, with 10 percent of all sales to be donated to breast cancer research charities. Nina Starck, head of design at Lindex, said Gaultier’s brand “has a strong sense of energy and self-confidence that accords well with the Lindex brand and where we are headed.”

Gaultier described his one-off collection as “bold, chic and strong.”
