“It’s like a Fellini movie.” That was Julia Roberts Friday evening at Pier 26 in Manhattan’s West Side for Riccardo Tisci’s extravagant presentation of the spring Givenchy collection, in New York for the first time. Besides Roberts, the face of the label’s spring 2015 campaign, Tisci scored a pack of celebrities for his front row – Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Christina Ricci – plus the filmmaker Pedro Almodovar, Courtney Love and Deborah Harry and a who’s who of designers like Vera Wang, Michael Kors, Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, Jeremy Scott and Tory Burch. Naturally, Bernard Arnault, the man who bankrolled the entire extravaganza, also took in the show from a prime seat. Behind them were hundreds of spectators who won tickets to watch from the sidelines. They got more than they bargained for: an Italian designer at a legacy French house walking away with the event of the New York collections. As he was walking backstage, West summed up the crowd reaction: “Incredible and emotional.”
