A FRIENDLY CREW: J. Crew Group’s collaborative spirit keeps growing, with some men’s denim styles from Imogene + Willie, a husband-and-wife design team based out of Nashville, launching at the end of August. This follows J. Crew’s latest product partnership, the Made in Heaven premium denim line out of London. J. Crew has been selling out on MIH’s $249 London Boy cropped jeans online, with select stores set to sell them next week. J. Crew also sells MIH’s London Boy skirt and “Breathless” jeans and, in September, adds the brand’s skinny and high-waisted jeans to the offering. “Made in Heaven jeans look different than anything else out there — gorgeous, supersoft fabric with washes you can tell were worked by hand — a real authenticity to them,” said Jenna Lyons, J. Crew’s executive creative director.

SPAIN’S FAVORED SON: Cristóbal Balenciaga will be celebrated in all his Spanish glory in New York, thanks to an exhibition that was put in motion by Oscar de la Renta. Aside from having started his career as an apprentice to Balenciaga, de la Renta chairs the board of the Queen Sofia Institute in New York, where “Balenciaga: Spanish Master” will bow Nov. 19. The show’s curator, Hamish Bowles, has been canvassing the globe securing such anchor pieces as the 1957 wedding dress of Sonsoles Diez de Rivera, the daughter of the Marquesa de Llanzol. Once Nicolas Ghesquière gave the go-ahead, the Balenciaga archives “have been opened up in an unprecedented way to an American institution,” Bowles said. Gaël Mamine and Igor U. Zubizarreta have also helped Bowles with his fashion hunt. He is hopeful that Ghesquière will be on hand for the opening, which will be inaugurated by Queen Sofia. The show, which will be expanded upon when it debuts at San Francisco’s de Young Museum in March, will be the first to encompass the impact of Spain’s culture, history and art on Balenciaga.
