SILK APPEAL: For its latest up-cycling venture, Hermès sister line Petit h asked interior design duo Nicolas Daul and Julien Demanche to give a new life to the waste from one of the company’s most iconic products — the silk carré. The waste silk, transformed into floss, inspired the designers to ask an artisanal paper maker to make it into tissue paper — the French term for which is papier de soie (or silk paper). The result, a paper composed 90 percent of silk and produced naturally to preserve the fibers, has been cut, shaped, polished and assembled with silk ribbons to create three objects: a console, folding screen and mirror. These will be displayed from Oct. 17 to Dec. 2 in Hermès’ Rue de Sèvres boutique in Paris.
