HILLARY’S TRUNK SHOW: Guests at Oscar de la Renta’s show Tuesday each found a plush stuffed elephant on their seats with a letter about the threat of elephant extinction signed by Hillary Rodham Clinton and daughter Chelsea. The not-so-subtle irony of one of the country’s leading Democrats giving away hundreds of elephants was not lost on the crowd.

Taken literally, the Clintons, who typed their missive on Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation letterhead, encouraged “friends” to join the Wildlife Conservation Society, The Nature Conservancy and Conservation International in spreading the word by using #SaveElephants. The trio also noted that “96 elephants are killed daily by poachers who smuggle tusks to the global black market for use in luxury goods and trinkets.” The former secretary of state was not in the crowd. She is expected to return to the pivotal state of Iowa this weekend for outgoing Sen. Tom Harkin’s annual Steak Fry, a key event for the Iowa Democratic Party.
