HOLDING COURT: Stuart Vevers was the man of the hour Tuesday night at the Monkey Bar in Midtown Manhattan. With drink in hand, Vevers, Coach’s newly appointed executive creative director, chatted up a gaggle of top fashion editors who orbited around the designer, hoping to get in a personal introduction.

The former creative head of Spanish brand Loewe, Vevers was eager to talk about his vision for the American leather goods brand, as well as his move to New York. “I’m living on Bank Street in the West Village,” the designer said, noting that his crates just arrived that morning from Madrid. “I’m really excited to be here. I just love a new challenge.”

Vevers spoke of his first memory of Coach, pointing to its logo-less Bonnie bags, which had served as a “reference” for his prior work at houses such as Bottega Veneta, Givenchy and Mulberry.

“I’m determined that we have to look to the future and be fashion relevant while having fun,” Vevers said of his new gig.

Executives from Coach Inc., including Lew Frankfort and Victor Luis, looked on, smiling and remarking at how “busy” Vevers has been since he joined the company.

“Stuart not only understands the fashion world but he understands a heritage leather brand, which Coach is — an American leather goods brand,” Luis said. “He’s already helping us on the road to transforming Coach into a broader lifestyle brand from a handbag and accessories brand. We’re very excited. He’s truly busy, and working nonstop.”
