WARIS IN AFRICA: House of Waris’ Waris Ahluwalia and Forevermark are rekindling their affair. The jewelry designer and the De Beers diamond brand teamed up for the first time last summer on a 14.58-carat oval diamond pendant, priced at a little under $2 million, as part of the “Center of My Universe” collection. This time around, things will be a bit different.

“That first piece [we collaborated on] was, of course, over the top,” said Ahluwalia. “We both knew that there was a bigger story to tell — not just involving beautiful diamonds, but responsible sourcing — and we could only tell it by continuing the relationship. By creating a collection that people could engage with and wear day to day, not just to the Oscars.”

Last spring, Forevermark invited Ahluwalia on a journey through South Africa, from the Kimberley mine in the Northern Cape Province to an active mine in Botswana, where he was able to interact with local communities. “These jobs [Forevermark has created] are all new to Botswana — jobs requiring education and extensive training,” Ahluwalia said. “This has resulted in a growing middle class and better health care. This was inspiring.”

The 13-piece House of Waris for Forevermark collection, which ranges from $3,000 to $15,000, is comprised of diamond studs, drop earrings, pendants, bracelets and a ring, and will be available this holiday season at select Forevermark retailers. Alan Cumming, Vanessa Traina, Max Snow, Behati Prinsloo, Greta Gerwig and Nora Zehetner are expected to fete the new collection Friday night at a cocktail reception at The Explorers Club on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
