ALL BOTTLED UP: James Franco was among the arty guests at Bottletop’s Full Circle Summer Party at the Victoria Miro gallery in northeast London on Friday. Bottletop, a charity that supports health education and vocational training projects for teenagers around the world, teamed with Miro to create the exhibition, “Cinematic Visions: Painting at the Edge of Reality.” Guests included Tilda Swinton, her artist partner Sandro Kopp, and the multi-tasking Franco, who co-curated the show with Isaac Julien and Glenn Scott Wright.
“I was called to be part of this about a year ago by Glenn Scott Wright [the gallery’s co-director] and he told me that he wanted to put on a painting show that was interacting with cinema in various ways, whether it’s through technique or through subject matter or conceptually, but that it would be a painting show in a kind of dance with cinema. So it made sense to me that I would be a part of that,” said Franco.
The artists taking part in the show, which runs through Aug. 3, include Kopp, Chris Ofili, Luc Tuymans, Peter Doig, Cecily Brown, Chantal Joffe, Harmony Korine and Celia Paul. Also on show were accessoriesfrom the Bottletop Fashion Company, a range of bags, clutches, and belts, all incorporating the recycled aluminum ring-pulls from tin cans.
