CAN YOU STAND THE RAIN: It may have been gray and wet outside, but there were enough flashbulbs popping on the front row of the Atelier Versace show in Paris on Sunday night to give the assembled A-listers a suntan.
Bradley Cooper, whose girlfriend Irina Shayk walked in the show, sat between Naomi Campbell and Jennifer Garner, beaming in a black-and-white column dress with a side slit. The American actress said she was in town especially for the show, held at the former Paris Stock Exchange.
“I loved the dress that Donatella put me in for the Oscars this year and she told me that the dress had inspired a whole collection, in a way. She asked if I would like to come, and I said I’d be thrilled and honored,” she said.
Garner’s sunny disposition appeared to be weather-proof. Asked if she was disappointed about the rain, she replied: “Of course not — it’s Paris! Anything works. Mysterious works, gloomy works. It’s all gorgeous.”
Vera Wang was struggling to muster the same enthusiasm. “I had a fantasy — I don’t know, I had like, walks in the Tuileries Garden or something. I only got here yesterday, but it’s been rough,” she said.
“I’m stopping here for a few days to look at beautiful clothes — and some of them people who I really admire and I know — and then off to London, because I’m renovating the store there and I’m going to see, hopefully, Serena Williams play at Wimbledon,” the designer added.
Don Lemon was taking advantage of the long Fourth of July weekend to take a break from covering the U.S. presidential election, though the topic was hard to avoid.
“Everyone I run into, it’s all they want to talk about. I’ve been sitting here, and all the fashion people are asking me about the election. Election and terrorism — they’re like, ‘What time should I take the Chunnel?’” the CNN anchor said. “I don’t mind it. It means people are watching and people are interested.”
It turns out Lemon is only too happy to talk about clothes for a change. “Can I tell you how much I love Versace? And this is an out-of-body experience to be here,” he enthused, pausing to kiss Wang on the cheeks. “I’m going to get to meet Donatella, and so I’m really excited.”
