INSPIRED BY INSTAGRAM: Jimmy Choo has teamed with the Brazilian illustrator Rafael Mantesso on a limited-edition capsule collection for pre-fall 2015.
Mantesso owns an English bull terrier called Jimmy Choo and has been sharing his illustrations of the dog in various poses. They caught the eye of Sandra Choi, Jimmy Choo’s creative director, who commissioned Mantesso to create a series of drawings for a line of accessories.
“All of a sudden, I had friends from all over the world forwarding me links to Rafael’s enchanting work featuring his loveable English bull terrier,” Choi said. “I had never seen anything like it. His work is so playful, clever and witty, and we struck up an immediate friendship online. I just knew that I had to incorporate his work into a collection.”
In keeping with her digital mind-set, Choi worked with Mantesso online. “We had to do FaceTime and Skype. Jimmy was lurking around in the back a few times,” she told WWD.
The seven-piece, one-off collection features a tote bag, a cosmetic bag, pouches, a dog collar and a phone case in bold pink copper and blue hues, made from canvas and leather. They are emblazoned with illustrations of the bull terrier perched on a sofa, dreaming of shoes and pretending to be a DJ.
Prices range from 50 pounds, or $78 at current exchange rate, for a phone case, to 695 pounds or $1,089 for a canvas bag and can be purchased in store and online.
The brand hosted an afternoon tea with Choi and Olivia Palermo at the Ivy Chelsea Garden. The new west London restaurant was decked in a black and white motif, and featured installations such as a doggy photo booth and water fountain.
