Julia Leach is the latest New York designer to decamp to Los Angeles. The former creative director of Kate Spade, who launched her lifestyle brand Chance in 2010, said the striped sweaters and tops, caftans and sun hats are in sync with the laid-back lifestyle of California. “I’ve been bicoastal for a while, and it feels great to finally make the move,” she said Wednesday night at Wear LACMA’s cocktail party, where she chatted with fellow New York transplant Gregory Parkinson. Leach is planning to launch a Chance Classics collection next month and has created four styles of black and white solid tees and tanks priced from $58 to $80 that will retail exclusively in handbag designer Kendall Conrad’s three shops in Venice, Brentwood and Montecito. “We have been friends for a long time,” Leach said of Conrad, “and we both share a love for simple, unadorned classics. Kendall embodies classic American cool with a nod to Europe.” Next up: She plans to add men’s striped shirts.
