“It’s like high-end Basquiat,” professed of the “magnificent” custom painted bags that Instagram star and artist Donald Drawbertson (né Donald Robertson) did in a collaboration with Kara Ross.

Sending a tweet to demonstrate his watch, nestled in a customized diamond pave cage setting designed by Ross, the singer said he was excited to be at the private dinner celebrating the collaboration. He came to the dinner straight from taping a segment the “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon (fingers crossed for a follow-up to their hilarious “Ew!” spoof music video).

Also at the home of the jeweler and her developer husband Steve Ross, an 80th floor penthouse with mahogany and maple paneling and marble mosaic floors, was longtime pal Tory Burch and of course, Robertson who made the rounds. After cocktails in the private residence guests descended to the 51st floor for a seated dinner which featured more of Robertsons’ handiwork: placecards and paper bag floral arrangements adorned in colorful duct tape.

The artist explained that he and Kara staged a “full on craft project at that fancy place upstairs. We set the bags to dry on the balcony. That was the best thing about it,” he quipped. The one-of-a-kind bags come in three varieties – waxed canvas, leather and python – and range in price from $395-$3000.  They resemble grocery bags, which the artist explained later were inspired by  “Whole Food bags”. 

When asked how many more bags the pair will do together Robertson was quick to say, “It’s like a dating collaboration, we’re checking each other out”.  Burch piped in, asking what date they were on to which the artist suggested things had gotten pretty steamy metaphorically speaking.
