A MODEL STAND IN: Kate Moss made a surprise appearance at London’s Brit Awards Wednesday night and collected David Bowie’s award for British Male Solo Artist at the ceremony at London’s O2 Arena. According to Bowie’s Web site, Moss sported Bowie’s vintage Woodland Creatures jumpsuit designed by Kansai Yamamoto, which the singer first wore when he performed as Ziggy Stardust at London’s Rainbow Theater in 1972. Moss accepted Bowie’s award, presented by the singer Noel Gallagher, and read an esoteric acceptance speech on the singer’s behalf. Moss read: “In Japanese myth, the rabbits on my old costume that Kate’s wearing actually live on the moon, Kate comes from Venus and I’m from Mars,” she read, adding, “I’m completely delighted to have a Brit for being the best male. But I am, aren’t I Kate?” Bowie ended the speech by asking “Scotland please stay with us,” referring to the ongoing campaign for Scotland’s independence from Britain, an issue on which Scotland is going to vote later this year.
