SHADY LADY: Tuesday night’s Kate Young for Tura eyewear launch party checked off all the Cinco de Mayo essentials: tacos, tequila, and, of course, sunglasses. “I wanted to make glasses that I wanted to wear,” Young said of the collaboration. The stylist was holding court in the basement of Lower East Side hot spot Tijuana Picnic, margarita firmly in hand. The capsule collection consists of a full women’s range, six optical styles and seven sunglasses done in multiple color ways.

The lineup was scattered around the space, sharing tabletops with platters of empanadas and scoops of guacamole — that is, however, with the exception of Young’s favorite pair. “I gave them to Selena Gomez last night,” she lamented. Gomez happens to be one of Young’s clients, and during the previous evening’s Met Gala dress-up session, the pop star had scored the gold-accented shades.

“I just posted a picture of her in them on Instagram — let’s see how many likes I got,” Young said, pulling out her iPhone. The number was hovering around the 1,400 mark. “It’s only been forty-five minutes,” she noted.

While Gomez’s presence was contained to social media, a number of Young’s other famous friends stopped by the fete, including Thakoon Panichgul, Jennifer Fisher, Monique Péan and Petra Collins. On their way out, guests collected a goodie bag containing a pair of Young’s shades and a mini bottle of Patron tequila — the makings for the sunglass selfie.
