LATIN FUSION: Blood red roses, tarot cards and skull designs abounded Friday at a benefit celebrating the Mexican Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, held at El Museo del Barrio in Manhattan’s East Harlem.

Sponsored by Siempre Mujer magazine, Veuve Clicquot and Mexico Tourism, the event, which featured a performance by Latin-fusion singer Xenia Rubinos, raised $55,000 to support the museum’s Hispanic arts education programs.

“For us, it’s about being able to tie art and culture that is culturally relevant with Latinos,” said Enedina Vega, vice president and publisher of Meredith Hispanic Media. “This kind of event has dual meaning — it’s about honoring your ancestors, people who have come before you, in a way that mixes modern and old.”
