SOCIAL SHOPPERS: London department store Liberty is to partner with Tapestry, a new app that enables shoppers to turn their likes of Instagram images into rewards in the retailer’s Regent Street flagship.

When shoppers download the Tapestry app on their smartphone — it launches at the end of October on Apple’s App Store — they can link it to their Liberty account or create a new one through the app with their Instagram account. Using iBeacon technology in the store, Tapestry then matches the user’s likes of Instagram images for various brands and products against the designers sold at Liberty, offering shoppers their own bespoke perks based on those likes. Those rewards could include gifts with a purchase, an invitation to a trunk show, or extra Liberty reward points. The app will also carry a customer’s loyalty data from the store, allowing them to redeem points and rewards at the point of payment, using a single barcode on the Tapestry app. The app will launch to Liberty Loyalty customers with a fall 2014 loyalty voucher as their first reward.

The Tapestry app was developed by The Upside, a London-based innovation consultancy. Ryan Thomas, Liberty’s multi-channel director said: “The work we have done with Upside to develop the Tapestry app will not only make it easier for our loyalty customers to access and use their Liberty rewards, but [will] also help to make their overall Liberty experience much more personal.”
