PRAISING POTTER: Lily Cole is supporting Beatrix Potter’s 150th anniversary celebrations, in association with publisher Penguin. The British actress and activist has written a first-person piece. There will be a social media campaign that launches to coincide with International Women’s Day that launches on March 7.
The campaign is meant to tie in with International Women’s Day activities in March and organizers are also working with the Women for Women charity. There will be a range of events centered around International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8.
Potter, who is best known for her work as a children’s author with her “Peter Rabbit” series, was also an artist, storyteller, botanist, conservationist and a businesswoman.
“I think Beatrix’s story is quite extraordinary,” Cole said. “I believe that time is the only real test of works of great art or literature, and so for any person to write a book that is still in circulation 100 years later is an enormous triumph. That she was a woman, and found success at a time where women met huge social obstacles, makes her even more of a hero to me.”
