LOFT GETS BUSY: Continuing with its series of artistic collaborations — such as with graffiti artist and designer Chris Uphues last Valentine’s Day and with comedian Whitney Cummings, who curated and hosted a series of outdoor film screenings known as the “LOL Movie Series” over the summer — Loft has tapped actress Busy Philipps for fall. The pair teamed up on two comedy shorts, both directed by Philipps and centering around fall themes.
Though Philipps previously directed an episode of TBS’s “Cougar Town,” the collaboration with Loft is her directorial debut on an independent project. “When they first approached me, I have to admit, my thought was ‘That’s weird, because I don’t work in an office,'” Philipps told WWD. “But my daughter and I went into the Loft store in Charleston [S.C.] where I am currently shooting, and I found myself really surprised by how cute and wearable the clothes were and how many pieces I found that fit into my daily life as a working mom.”
In the first short, titled “First Day of School” and costarring her daughter Birdie, Philipps thought it would be humorous to flip the script on first-day-of-school rituals. “I thought it’d be funny… to have Birdie seeing me off to my first day of work, and dealing with my anxiety and nervousness over picking out the perfect ‘first day’ outfit — which, by the way, is something that happens every time I start a new show.” The episode will make its debut today on loft.com and also live on the brand’s social channels.
