SPREADING THE LOVE: New York jewelry and home goods retailer Love Adorned plans to expand to the West Coast in June.
Owner Lori Leven said feedback from Los Angeles area customers perusing her stores in New York drove her plans to open a 2,000-square-foot store in Santa Monica.
“Sometimes New York is a bit of a challenge as far as living there,” Leven said. “It’s bombastic and it’s crowded and it’s loud. I’m a native New Yorker so I thought [the new store] would make my life sweeter.”
Leven plans to split her time living on both coasts once the store opens and picked Santa Monica for her new outpost based on personal preference.
Her stores carry a mix of vintage jewelry and art pieces she sources from flea markets during her travels, along with her own line of jewelry and pieces from designers such as Communion by Joy, Elizabeth Street and Lou Zeldis.
Love Adorned started in 1996 as New York Adorned, which was one-part jewelry store and another part tattoo shop. The two businesses were so popular, it left little room for Leven to expand the retail side with more accessories and furniture. New York Adorned is still open and Love Adorned operates in Manhattan and the Hamptons.
Leven said she is working on expanding Love Adorned-branded products, including a scarf line debuting in the fall. She’s also focused on growing her stores’ offerings of men’s jewelry along with vintage and antique pieces.
