HEALTH KICK: Lululemon might advocate health and fitness, but the label still knows how to throw a party. For the launch of the Canadian brand’s London store in Covent Garden Thursday night, the 3,000-square-foot store and its outside courtyard were festooned with a canopy of flowers, under which the Champagne flowed and floor-fillers pumped until way after the event was due to end. Guests at the party numbered London social types including Marissa Montgomery, Amber Nuttall and event designer Fiona Leahy, along with Lululemon’s chief executive Laurent Potdevin and members of his team.

The London space is designed to echo Covent Garden’s history as a flower and fresh food market, with boxes behind registers replicating the crates of old Covent Garden Market, while a feature wall is made up of basket weave. After a cocktail at the store, the stylist and writer Pippa Vosper — who’s also a part-time spinning instructor — and brand consultant Alexandra Meyers hosted an intimate, candlelit dinner in the label’s showroom space. And given the health conscious crowd, tips on wellbeing were the talk of the evening. “Sake,” said Julie Montagu, aka the nutritionist and yoga teacher behind the Flexie Foodie blog. “I swear, it has 20 times the amount of antioxidants as red wine and it’s totally clean, so no hangovers.” Vosper, who teaches Real Ryder spin classes in London on a Sunday morning, said, “Before any morning workout I drink my incredible homemade combination of almond milk, espresso, vanilla extract and cinnamon to give me the energy I need to be on the bike for two hours.”

And Lululemon isn’t stopping with the Covent Garden store — Potdevin said that a second store will open in the UK by the end of the year, but he declined to give any more details.
