LUXURY DEFENSE: Amid all the Scrooge-like talk of austerity measures, Silvia Venturini Fendi has been defending luxury. At the European Union Innovation Convention in Brussels on Dec. 5, the creative director of Fendi Accessories, part of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, called upon the EU Commission for support. European luxury products, she said, “embody the contrasting forces of tradition and creativity, past and future, that is unique to European culture.”

Specifically, Fendi requested a strong intellectual property framework and stressed the luxury sector’s role as a creator of jobs and a driver of growth that can help pull Europe out of its economic crisis.
