ON YOUR MARKS, MADISON HALL: Space 519 owners Lance Lawson and Jim Wetzel are gearing up for a mid-June opening of their latest Chicago retail venture, Madison Hall. Located in the upcoming Chicago Athletic Association Hotel at 12 South Michigan Avenue, the 1,700-square-foot store will occupy two storefronts on Madison Street.
“With Madison Hall being in a hotel, we are offering an array of items geared toward guests of the property,” said Lawson, adding that the store will carry unique snack items, fresh flowers and an assortment of travel-related necessities. The owners also hope to attract shoppers from the surrounding South Michigan Avenue community. “It’s a retail desert over there except for mass market chain stores,” Lawson said.
Madison Hall will feature accessories by Eddie Borgo and Thierry Lasry and mini shops-in-shop with apothecary lines like Aesop and Santa Maria Novella. “And while we won’t have ready-to-wear, we will carry some soft accessories from Rachel Comey and Apiece Apart,” Wetzel said.
The retail partners said after running Space 519 for five years, they were ready to expand. “From the start, we knew we didn’t want to open another Space 519,” Wetzel said. “Instead, we wanted to grow like a restaurant group, adding other retail concepts that are creatively tied to our brand, but which are also designed for their location and audience.”
