TOKYO BOUND: Maison Kitsuné will be celebrating Valentine’s Day in Japan this year. The French fashion label and retailer will open a freestanding store and a cafe in Tokyo’s Aoyama district on Feb. 14, when the brand’s founders Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki will host a party.

Kuroki, a trained architect, designed the two spaces along with architecture office FHC. In line with the brand’s Parisian retail concept, the store and cafe will feature Japanese elements like tailor-made tatami mats and sliding bamboo doors.

The new store will sell the top range of the brand’s ready-to-wear collections. The cafe will serve gourmet coffee and serve as a record store stocking goods from Kitsuné’s own music label.

“For our Maison Kitsuné shops in Tokyo, I kept in mind the architecture of our Paris stores, which carry a strong Haussmann style, to which I added some touches of traditional Japanese materials,” Kuroki said.
