MAKE IT A DOUBLE: While Dennis Basso and about 100 of his friends lunched Tuesday at Doubles, the private club at The Sherry-Netherland hotel, models weaved through the tables showing off 60 looks from his fall line.
Knowing time was of the essence for some, Wendy Carduner helped keep things moving along, whisking such guests as Star Jones, Pamela Fiori, Caroline Dean, Jamee Gregory, Somers Farkas, Amy Fine Collins and Dana Taylor to their seats. With many having a proper catch-up or recapping Monday night’s Met ball, the first model to walk the room returned disappointed. “They’re all talking,” she said glumly.

Talk they did, but once the beaded cocktail dresses and gowns sauntered by, they took notice. Three friends in the crowd — Gigi Fisdell, Della Rounick and Ivana Trump — were at Basso’s very first show at the Regency Hotel in 1983. Seated at the head table, Basso preferred to chat with his gal pals (many of whom he has known for 20-plus years) rather than make any formal remarks or go for the hard sell. But should they have been tempted by more than the strawberry shortcake, they caught word that a three-day trunk show gets under way today at his Madison Avenue boutique.
