HOLOGRAPHIC DISPLAY: Talk about a virtual makeover: Louis Vuitton artistic director Marc Jacobs has created the outfits for Hatsune Miku, the digital avatar that is the star of musician and artist Keiichiro Shibuya’s new opera “The End.”

The opera, featuring solely computer-made music and video, will be staged at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo on May 23 and 24. A synthetic character that can be programmed to perform any song on a computer, Miku has become a pop culture sensation in Japan.

The Vocaloid’s outfits are based on Vuitton’s spring-summer collection, featuring a variety of checkerboard patterns. “This collaboration is the first of its kind, as the outfits that digitized Hatsune Miku wears can only be seen first hand by those who attend the ‘The End’ performances,” organizers stated.

The opera will also be performed at the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris in November, according to the opera’s official Web site theend-official.com.
