CROWD CONTROL: Marigay McKee, the new president of Saks Fifth Avenue, was the guest of honor at a dinner hosted by WSJ Magazine on Giacomo Bistrot in Milan on Friday night – and she demonstrated that she doesn’t take anything for granted.

“When I spoke to my daughter today, she said, ‘Mom, do you think anyone will turn up?'” McKee related, to a round of knowing laughs.

That’s because the restaurant was so packed that it was a feat of gymnastics to negotiate, and a chore coaxing everyone into to sit for the four-course dinner.

Among those lingering at the bar were Diego and Andrea Della Valle; Tod’s designer Alessandra Fachinetti; twin designers Dean and Dan Caten; Vionnet owner Goga Ashkenazi, Jimmy Choo honcho Pierre Denis; Giorgio Armani’s Graziano De Boni; and Aeffe’s Massimo Ferretti and Michelle Stein, who related that some guests invited to Jeremy Scott’s debut show at Moschino were offered up to 500 euros for their tickets outside.

“I feel like ringing a bell,” WSJ’s editor in chief Kristina O’Neill remarked as she stood by her table awaiting designers Joseph Altuzarra and Fausto Puglisi, along with Margherita Missoni and her husband Eugenio Amos.

Amos, a devotee of racing cars and slow food, is combining his passions in a new business venture due to launch later this year in Europe, starting with London: a fleet of Italian food trucks under the banner Yellowcorn.

The cornerstone of the menu is polenta, “a democratic food,” Amos said as he tucked into a vegetable risotto.
