A BOSELLI HONOR: The fashion world has a special ally with men and women in uniform: the president of Italy’s Camera della Moda, Mario Boselli, who received a certificate of merit Nov. 29 from the Lombardy region’s Military Command.

“An entrepreneur constantly at the frontlines in highlighting the excellence of our country, he facilitated and organized runway shows in Army buildings, supporting the image of the armed forces,” said commander and brigade general Antonio Pennino, who handed Boselli the award. “In this way he created a link between the military institution and major fashion houses, which in turn furthered the completion of certain maintenance work within the military infrastructure.” Reached by phone, a flustered Boselli said he was touched by the certificate — and by the high concentration of awards that have landed on his lap recently. On Nov. 14, he received the World Fashion Luxury Award in Moscow alongside fellow Italians Alberta Ferretti and Cristiano Burani, and on Nov. 28 he collected a prize from the Federazione Relazioni Pubbliche Italiana, a public relations federation, which recognized the Italian Chamber of Fashion for its efforts in promoting young designers.

“To be honest, I’m quite worried, I’m not sure what to make of it when you get all these prizes,” Boselli said with a chuckle. “I’m astounded… You won’t believe it, but in just two hours I’m picking up another award from the Fondazione Italia-Cina [Italy-China Foundation] and Class Editori.”

For his lengthy career in fashion, Boselli has received numerous awards over the years: he was appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro in 1990, Commandeur de l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur in France in 2002, and Cavaliere di Gran Croce Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana in 2007. Boselli proudly recalled organizing fashion shows at Palazzo Cusani, a 17th-century building currently owned by the Ministry of Defense. “It’s wonderful for us as Italians to be able to show off our historical buildings and rich culture,” he said.
