THE MARRYING KIND: The shows aren’t fashion’s only news this week.
Two industry pillars, longtime partners Mark Lee and Ed Filipowski, just got married. The news surfaced casually, when, in a response to a media request, Filipowski wrote, “Ask me anything as Mark and I got married this week and I’m still in a great mood!” Perfect setup to an obvious journalistic query: “We’re on the record, yes?”
Filipowski agreed and then some. Ever the publicist, he made the reporting easy (read: unnecessary). His response of, “Oh sure,” was followed with:
“Married on Monday on the terrace of their Chelsea penthouse at sunset in an intimate ceremony and dinner at their longtime restaurant of choice around the corner, Bottino. Tom Kirdahy, husband of playwright Terrence McNally, officiated. Ed and Mark met 23 years ago at a rooftop party in the East Village and knew their fate was sealed when they wore the exact same outfit to their first date — white jeans and blue gingham shirts. And just to show some people always know what goes together — they were secretly set up at that 1992 party by Nick Wooster. Ed and Mark will be taking their honeymoon in London, Milan and Paris in the coming weeks.”
Congratulations, guys. We hear London, Milan and Paris are lovely this time of year. Crazy at times, but lovely still.
