RAISING FUNDS AND AWARENESS: “We’re nearly halfway there,” said Marvin Traub Associates’ chief executive Mortimer Singer, speaking of his firm’s goal to raise $1 million for bladder cancer research, treatment and awareness this year.

Singer cited the progress at Tuesday night’s fund-raiser held at Beautique on 58th Street and drawing 250 supporters, among them Lawrence Leeds of the Buckingham Group, who got the ball rolling by announcing his own $10,000 donation. In two hours, $50,000 was raised through donations and the sale of a $60 limited-edition belt from Beltology. Others attending were Lee Traub, the widow of Marvin Traub, Stephen Sadove, Helaine Suval, Mickey Ateyah, Michael Kaplan of Fashion to Figure, and David B. Solit, MD., medical oncologist and a laboratory scientist.

“This is a cancer that has been in the shadows,” Singer said. “Men don’t like to go to the doctor. They don’t like to learn about this. Shockingly few people are aware. The women must speak to the men about it.” Singer said donations can be made on PinDownBladderCancer.org or by buying the belt on Beltology.com.
