MELISSA’S NEXT MOVE: The Brazilian jelly shoe brand Melissa is set to open its first U.K. store come mid-October. Housed in an 18th century building at 43 King Street in Covent Garden, the store will span 4,305-square-feet over two floors. The store’s design is a collaboration between Muti Randolph, a multimedia artist and interior designer from Rio de Janeiro, and Melissa’s creative director Edson Matsuo. The space will have a sleek, minimal look with futuristic, white gloss display plinths and shelves, with the modern interiors contrasting with the store’s historical façade. Paulo Pedo, Melissa’s brand director, said that the label sees London as “a melting pot of new ideas.” Pedo also said that Melissa had sought to maintain the “historic” look of the store’s building, while infusing the space with Melissa’s “modern and contemporary language.” The London space will add to Melissa’s existing stores in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Soho, New York, the latter of which opened in 2012. Melissa, which has collaborated with designers including Vivienne Westwood, Gareth Pugh and Jason Wu in the past, plans to fete the new London store with a party Oct. 9.
