Their mother Michelle Obama may be in Milan visiting high-level officials, but teens Malia and Sasha Obama on Wednesday did what teens do: went shopping. At 7:45 p.m., a long procession of law enforcement vehicles escorted the First Daughters to 10 Corso Como, Carla Sozzani’s concept store in Piazza 25 Aprile, where they were shielded by another protective detail. No word on what they bought but, after all, the dollar is strong against the euro so now is a good time to buy.
According to a well-placed source, there was no advance warning that the Obama girls were coming to visit Carla Sozzani’s concept store. “When we heard the commotion outside, at first we didn’t believe that they were really coming, and it was only until we saw all of the security escorts that we realized it was really them. It was such a wonderful, magnificent surprise,” said the source.
Once inside, Sasha and Malia casually looked around the ground floor boutique for about twenty minutes, but they didn’t buy anything. At the end of the visit, there was a bit of panic concerning how to exit the store without getting photographed by the large squad of paparazzi that had assembled at the concept store’s entrance in Corso Como.
The source said that despite being the daughters of the American president, “they behaved like normal girls, were very down-to-earth, very sweet, very kind and had a young, fresh air about them.”
The girls are visiting Milan through today with their mother; their grandmother, Marian Robinson, and President Obama’s niece, Leslie Robinson. The First Lady is visiting the USA Pavilion at Expo 2015 Milano today to showcase her five-year-old “Let’s Move” initiative that promotes healthy eating and exercise.
Obama arrived in Milan Wednesday wearing a custom Duro Olowu spring 2015 printed skirt and Alice + Olivia top. The first official engagement took Obama to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping arcade for a cooking demonstration with students from the American School in the city. She later visited Milan’s Cenacolo Vinciano and the famed “Last Supper” by Leonardo Da Vinci. The group is expected to head to Vicenza and Venice on Friday on their continuing Italian journey.
