NYC HERE WE COME: Textiles and accessories trade show Milano Unica is coming to New York for the first time. From July 20 through 22 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, about 80 exhibitors will present their collections to a select group of buyers specifically invited by Milano Unica. The decision to show in the U.S. this summer was finalized today during Milano Unica’s presidential committee meeting.

The New York event will come on the heels of Milano Unica Precollezioni, an exclusive look at the fall-winter 2016-2017 lineups held at Milan’s Fieramilanocity space from July 1 to 3. In addition, Anteprima by Lineapelle, focused on leather goods and accessories, will take place on July 2 and 3.

Noting that hosting both Milan and New York events in the same month represented a significant organizational feat, Milano Unica president Silvio Albini said it nevertheless demonstrated “the confidence with which the textiles and accessories sector intends to take on the challenges” of a changing international scene, both in terms of consumption and manufacturing patterns.

“In this effort, we are not alone, but are supported greatly by the Italian government, which — in particular thanks to the initiative of vice minister for economic development Carlo Calenda — has clearly understood the strategic importance of [Italian manufacturing] for the country’s recovery and development,” Albini added.
