SHOP TALK: In a rare treatise on business, Miuccia Prada mused about the economic downturn just minutes before her men’s wear show Sunday night. Asked if she thought consumers might distance themselves from designer goods, she replied, “I don’t know why this whole idea of customers moving away from expensive brands would apply to fashion only. It should be across the board then because a sophisticated consumers buys expensive art, design and furniture,” she said, wearing a gray flannel men’s coat tossed over a sweater and sky blue skirt. “I’m really pleased that we’ve always worked much more on the product than on the brand and I think this pays back. Crisis always pushes you to do better.” And she insisted young people, citing her two sons as example, are still willing to splash out for quality, made-in-Italy clothing with extra details and innovation. “They still want to look good and put together,” she said.
