Just when everyone thought red carpet season was finally over comes a reminder that the spring music and festival season picks up where Oscars season left off. Combining the two, MTV today revealed the first round of presenters for the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, including Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain from the upcoming film “The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” Seth Rogen and Zac Efron from “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising,” Olivia Munn from “X-Men: Apocalypse” and Gigi Hadid from fashion and the general zeitgeist overall.
Look for more presenters — all surely selected for similarly timed spring and summer movie projects or general social media popularity — to be announced in the coming weeks.
The live broadcast show, hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart, airs April 10 at 8 p.m. EST from the Warner Bros. backlot in Burbank, Calif.
Nomination highlights include “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Creed,” ” Deadpool,” “Jurassic World,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Straight Outta Compton” competing for Movie of the Year, and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” garnering the most nominations — 11 — for a franchise.
Among the acting nominees likely to attend are Daisy Ridley, Michael B. Jordan, Jennifer Lawrence, John Boyega, Alicia Vikander, Anna Kendrick, Morena Baccarin, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Pratt, Matt Damon and Will Smith.
Don’t expect an #OscarsSoWhite-type controversy here, but no doubt there may be some jokes and comparisons lobbed by pundits covering the show. But really, what most viewers will be looking forward to is the red carpet, which should yield some fun, fearless — or frightful — looks from the movie and music crowd.
No doubt designers including Jeremy Scott, Versace, Prada, Givenchy, Chanel, Dior and a host of others with sparkly, short and slit-to-there options on offer are already dreaming up sketches and modifying samples for the top show-bound talent. The rest of the pack can get in line.
