Princess Yasmin Aga Khan and her fund-raisers for the Alzheimer’s Association have a good friend in Naeem Khan. In honor of Khan’s mother Rita Hayworth, who passed away due to the disease, the fashion designer, who donated a custom purple gown for the auction during last year’s gala in New York, is returning for the second annual Rita Hayworth luncheon in Palm Beach on Friday. He plans to show looks from his spring collection at the Colony Hotel, which recently underwent a full redesign by cohost Carleton Varney.
Priced from $300 to $500, tickets sold out for the ballroom’s occupancy of 160 attendees, including 40 men. The charity hopes to raise $150,000 with the addition of door prizes and silent auction items such as tickets to “Hamilton” on Broadway and a Lilly Pulitzer gift basket from local boutique C. Orrico.
“I went to every business in Palm Beach for the auction, and no one turned me down,” said Varney, who donated a home fragrance for the gift bag. “People are very conscious about Alzheimer’s these days and know it isn’t a matter of age. This year’s speaker isn’t even 50 years old.”
On the eve of the event, Nina and Pieter Taselaar are hosting a cocktail reception for 100 guests at their nearby home.
“It will be glamorous and set around the pool,” said Varney.
