HANDBAG QUEEN: Nancy Gonzalez hosted a luncheon at Saks Fifth Avenue Beverly Hills on Wednesday for loyal fans, many of whom brought — and bought — one-of-a-kind bags. “I love these events because I never have time to place my own orders for the one-off’s, so when I come, I get to see them all,” said the designer, who called America “the country of opportunities.” Gonzalez, who opened a shop-in-shop in Harrod’s this year, is planning on opening in four more stores in 2012: TSUM In Moscow, Harvey Nichols, IFC Hong King and the Galleria in Taipei. She also plans to unveil a new category in September. Meanwhile, her son Santiago who handles sales and his own menswear line, is collaborating on a chair with Aldo Bakker for the Salone del Mobile in Milan. As women lined up to show her their bags, Gonzalez said, “I really appreciate when the customer understands the message. When women tell me what they love about a bag and it’s exactly what I was thinking when I designed it, that’s a gift.”
