BREAKING THE CODE: Not only is Nanette Lepore trying to save the garment center, but she’s also passionate about empowering women in the workplace. The designer is hosting a holiday party for Girls Who Code, a national non-profit organization that aims to educate and equip young women for futures in the computing field. The happy hour will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Nanette Lepore boutique at 423 Broome Street.
“It’s exciting how close fashion and technology complement each other,” said Lepore Monday. “As a female entrepreneur, I know how essential it is to empower women in the workplace. I love that Girls Who Code and Reshma Saujani [founder and ceo of Girls Who Code] are working so hard to expose women to a new field of opportunity within technology,” said Lepore.
Among those expected are Saujani, along with 50 guests, including Girls Who Code members, volunteers, teachers and representatives from Google, Twitter and Square. Each attendee will receive a $100 gift certificate to the store and a chance to enter a drawing for a Nanette Lepore handbag.
